PicEd Cora - Online measurement
Request from the production line:
Lengths, Distances or positions of production parts should be
controlled online:
With the help of a camera system and suitable optics the video image is displayed on the
screen.
The PicEd Cora online module allows to generate measurement positions and measure online
the distances between these positions.
Request from quality control:
To ensure the qualtiy of production sample parts are
put under the mikroskop and controlled by measuring distances, diameters and positions of
some parts. One has to generate a measurement description once. Then the executing worker
places a sample part under the microscope and calls the measurement description for this
part. The software measures the part online without additional mouse clicks and exhibits
the result.
Preparation: Setup of the software, measurement descriptions
To demonstrate a simple case: a diameter measurement.

First one have to define search profiles. These
profiles are placed at those parts of the image where the borders of the object has to be
searched. PicEd searches the borders using the brighness difference. As long as the
borders of the objects are within the extend of the search profile they are found.
Afte calibration of the system the software knows the relation pixels to mm (or µm or cm)
and therefore distances can be evaluated. In case of not orthogonal camera position to the
object the perspective view is also taken into account.
Search profiles need not to be horizontal or vertical.
Critera for borders can be adjusted in various
manner. For instance sets of search profile can enhance precision.
Besides the basic measurement descriptions for
simple distances it is possible to define related measurements. The position of a search
profile can depend on the results of other search profiles.
Processing of results:
After definition and loading the measurement profile online
measurement is possible. PicEd evaluates the results and displays it in the picture.
Looking at the following picture the shape building of the drop is controlled. Width of
the drop and its center is measured. Depending of this result the midth of this drop is
used to measure its heigth.

Actual measurement results are displayed righthand. The
time evolution of the values is displayed below.
There are many ways to display the results. For instance
also the difference to ideal value can be displayed.
PicEd Cora has several interfaces to production controlling
systems:
It can transfer the results to S7 systems, it can directly use the results to exhibt
signals on an analoge/digital interface board, or it can protocol the results in ASCII
files.
